ASPECTS OF MYSELF

 “Quite” does not suit me.
Which is why I don’t like 
watered ouzo
family cars
sweet-talk and excuses.

“Too much” does suit me.
That’s why
I sample spicy food,
frequent crowded places,
cherish passions and dreams.

I also like “not at all”.
Which is why
I like black straight coffee,
minimalism,

little talk and being alone.

  1. I was intrigued for quite a few days about the innermost meaning of that poem. I also had the belief that this relates closely to features of the writer. As I could not find any source of information for that piece of artifact, with the mysterious relation of the words I decided to try my own analysis. Any comment or corrections to my findings are more than welcome.

    Starting my interpretation I believe that the word ‘quite’ is the synonym for completeness and the emotions of satisfaction that are generated by the achievement of that. When the author says that all this context does not suit her it means that she wants to go to stages other, beyond completeness, such as those related to perfection. And intending to get towards perfection triggers a curiosity to the reader for the dare, the bravery, the potential the author can have to direct steadily in that direction but also the confidence to support her walking in demanding and lonely paths that lead to beyond the usual, even when they seem fine for an average fighter.
    In the sense analysed previously, any situation filled to the top is not enough for her either. The watered glass of ouzo, even though reaching the glass’s to the top getting mixed with water probably, is not something to make her happy either. Firstly because she wants to go beyond the limits of a glass, secondly because she wants to explore the anxiety of exploring the unknown and, thirdly, to feel the thrill of getting beyond the limit. Quite similarly for the sweet talk, where everything must be displayed as fine, and according to the tedious and, in most cases, boring rules of normality. And furthermore, when the normality might go to unbalance, the excuses come to patch the virtual calmness of the normal boredom. The author seems to refuse compromise to such situations and searching for anything out of it.
    ‘Too much’, she says, suits her. Too much denotes more clearly the excessiveness implied in the first part. Spicy food, crowded places and passions and dreams are instances of the demands that a person might have from life. Demands for the too much and not the little earned by the little effort, for the vivid crowd places and not for the cemeteries of the eternal rest, for the passions that make the eyes flash and the yawn to break her breath ! The dreams, those that make the heart pound strongly and pumps energy to the whole body and spirit. These are stages that somebody can realise that he can go beyond limits and can find in the universe what he has been built for: Love, true and passionate love !
    Finally, in the last part, that of ‘not at all’ as the author names that, the hero of the poem is asking for some serenity and loneliness to realise his/her achievements. To relax a little and feel the happiness, but also the pride, for not being of an ordinary human nature. Perhaps to relinquish his/her energy to the universe that has brought his/her existence in complete synchronisation (self-frequency is the actual term) with. And last but not least, to dream on. To dream on and on for the day to come with all the new adventures and the thirst for life !
